Welcome to Our Blog

A little bit about the writing on Two and Three Quarters, a little bit about Claire and a little bit about Mallory. Welcome!

I’d like to begin by blaming Mallory. She’s the instigator in this whole blog thing. She said to me, “Claire, all the other moms are doing it, why not us?”

She is the cool mom, so I’m very susceptible to her peer pressure. But, yeah, why not US? We’re smart enough (well, at least one of us has a PhD), we’re mom enough, and doggone it, people like us!

So here we are, trying to give people a little taste of what it’s like to be trapped inside our heads. Since we’re just starting out, the style and voice of this blog are just beginning to take shape, so I’m not really sure what to tell you exactly what you can expect.

I mean, the photos from our phone are probably mediocre at best, so don’t expect to regram or pin beautiful well-lit photos from this blog. We do run together, but we’re not fitness pros so you won’t see us hashtag “Fitspo” about anything we do. We’re not here to tell you about “natural living,” seeing as we got chemicals all up in our bodies (please reference: any science book). We have yet to find an oracle to tell us the answers to all of our questions about child-rearing, so we won’t be doling out advice as though we’re experts.

I hope that if you’re still reading you’re not thinking, “Geez, then what do you have to offer?” and instead might be thinking, “Hey, it’s nice to know that other moms don’t have it all figured out either and I don’t have to be perfect!” Yes! Exactly! I like to keep imperfect company, you guys actually make living infinitely more tolerable.

So, now that I’ve rambled on for an appropriate amount of time, I’ll finally tell you a little bit about myself. I am a twenty-something-year-old  mother to one toddler boy. As our only child, he is currently my favorite. We have two not-so-well-behaved dogs. We live a military lifestyle, so we move often. This means we live away from family and are constantly saying “see you later” to new and old friends.

This picture of me was taken in 2012. But I don’t care, I still like it.

My husband and I are high school sweethearts originally from Texas (if you know me, you know I rarely let you forget about my Texas pride) and we both graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. I graduated with a Public Relations degree and very very briefly had a job as a publicist. Now I happily wear the title of Stay-At-Home-Mom.

I like to run and do yoga. I like to cook, sew and attempt other forms of crafting. I love Pinterest and ALL the moms that make Pinterest beautiful. I am proud to say that Joanna Gaines from HGTV’s Fixer Upper is my celebrity doppelganger. It gives me false confidence in my ability to produce beautiful design and someday raise 4 beautiful children on a Texas farm.

She can tell you more about herself, but I have to tell you about my partner-in-crime, my sister wife, Mallory. Our about section briefly covers how we met. Military life connected us and we found out we relate on so many more levels, which has kept us connected throughout our moves. Mallory is so caring, giving and thoughtful that sometimes I worry that I’m going to find out that we’re not actually friends and that she was just “being nice” all this time.

Mallory circa 2012 with her puppy Huggy Bear. That dog is at least 2 times bigger now.

But seriously, she is one of those rare gems that always stays in touch and I can trust her to tell me like it is. Her excellence extends beyond her friendship. She’s super smart. She has a PhD in Analytical Chemistry and because I don’t know what that entails, whenever I have a question about anything, I address her as “Doctor” and assume she knows the answer. She takes extremely good care of her family; she cooks, cleans, the works. Whenever I want to go on an outing that my husband isn’t exactly game for, I call her instead. It’s part of the reason I call her my “sister wife.” I don’t think I can say enough nice things about her, so I’ll say one pseudo-mean thing: Mallory, I hate you for being so great.

I hope we’re okay enough at this blog thing.

I’m diggin the blog! I think it is funny how we are well educated stay at home moms (I got my masters & had Another child in the two and half years). Miss you Claire, even if we only saw each other once a week at prenatal yoga. 😊
